Only six goals separate Premier League’s top five attackers in the race for the Golden Boot. We teamed up with John Hendricks, content editor at one of the best prediction websites at the moment, FootballPredictions.com According to his information, Romelu Lukaku is leading the goal-scoring chart at the moment, but the likes of Harry Kane, Alexis Sanchez, Diego Costa and Zlatan Ibrahimovic should not be written off just yet.
Despite being signed as a solution to Chelsea’s striking problems, Romelu Lukaku was not given a chance to prove his worth at Stamford Bridge. The Belgian attacker was hungry for a first-team football and he decided to move to Everton. Lukaku has been scoring goals for fun for the Goodison Park outfit ever since he joined the club and he is currently the Premier League’s top scorer. The former Chelsea man has netted 21 goals in the English top flight so far this season and it is no surprise many football predictions suggest that he is going to win the Golden Boot.
Harry Kane was struggling to find his best form at the start of the season, but the Tottenham Hotspur attacker has been impressive in front of goal in 2017. The 23-year-old looks unstoppable at the moment and he totally deserved to win the Premier League Player of the month award for February. With 19 goals on his account, Kane is considered No. 2 favourite to win the Golden Boot, but it is well known that he suffered an injury in the FA Cup victory over Millwall earlier in March.
Alexis Sanchez is undisputedly Arsenal’s key player. “El Nino Maravilloso” has been producing scintillating displays this season, but he is angry with the club management and, as things stand now, he will not extend his contract with the Emirates Stadium outfit. Sanchez has netted 18 goals in the league to date, but seeing that Arsenal do not seem to be on top of their game at the moment, I do not believe that he will finish the season as the Premier League’s top goalscorer.
Chelsea striker Diego Costa has scored 17 goals in 26 appearances in the Premier League and, no doubt, he is enjoying his most successful season in the English top flight. The Spain international is on the right track to overcome the number of goals he scored two seasons ago (20), but seeing that the Blues are likely to rely on their rock-solid defence in the remainder of the season, the 28-year-old attacker is unlikely to win the Golden Boot.
Last, but no least is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibra failed to find the net in previous three Premier League fixtures, but it has to be noted that he missed the Middlesbrough game through suspension. The Swedish veteran has been producing fine performances this season, but he needs to start scoring goals on regular basis if he is to overtake Romelu Lukaku in top position in the goal-scoring chart. Zlatan scored his 15th goal of the season in a 3-0 win over Leicester City, but he has four assists on his account as well.
Anyhow, Romelu Lukaku, who is in form of his life, has a big chance of finishing the season at the Premier League’s top scorer and I would not be surprised if he clinches the trophy for the first time in his career.
