Man United 2-2 Liverpool, Oct 1992
The first Premier League clash here ended in an entertaining draw which saw Ian Rush surpass Roger Hunt as Liverpool’s all-time leading goal-scorer.
Liverpool took the lead through Don Hutchinson’s deflected effort, then Rush doubled their advantage from close range after great work by Ronny Rosenthal.
Mark Hughes pulled one back with a wonderful first-time volley over Bruce Grobbelaar, then got his and United’s second with a text-book near post header.
This first encounter set the tone for the next few decades of wonderful matches featuring some exquisite attacking play.
