Chelsea and Manchester United could face a battle as they both go in search of the signature of Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, per The Sun.
Rudiger has been a regular first-teamer since signing for Roma from Stuttgart. The German has also broken into the national side for whom he has appeared 11 times.
However, ESPN has reported that Chelsea are also interested in acquiring Danish centre-back Simon Kjaer from Turkish side Fenerbahce.
Kjaer has made over 30 appearances for Fenerbahce. The 27-year-old has also spent time in Europe’s top leagues with Palermo, Wolfsburg, Roma, and Lille.
Another option for Manchester United could be Swedish defender Victor Lindelof with Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira apparently flying to England for talks over a £38m deal, per Ojogo.pt.
Lindelof, 22, has become a pivotal part in Benfica’s starting 11 helping them to the league title last season. The Swede also helped his national U-21 side to the U-21 European Championship title in 2015.
Jose Mourinho is still looking for his best centre-back partnership at Manchester United while Antonio Conte may be looking for a replacement for an ageing John Terry.
Manchester United’s defence has been questionable at times this season but they have kept three clean sheets in their last four outings whereas Chelsea have conceded just three goals in their last 11 Premier League games.
