Date: Saturday 17th December Venue: Veltins Arena Competition: Bundesliga KO: 14.30
Schalke are without Naldo who was sent off last weekend. Matija Nastasic and Benedikt Howedes could both return.
Strikers Breel Embolo, Klaas-jan Huntelaar and Frnaco di Santo are all still injured so Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will start up-front.
SC Freiburg are without Georg Niedermeier and Max Philipp.
Mike Frantz and Julian Schuster will partner each other in midfield.
Both these sides have lost seven league games this season and only two points separate them in mid-table. Schalke lost 1-0 at home to Bayer Leverkusen last week whereas Freiburg ended a four-game streak without a win by beating Darmstadt.
Schalke have taken a while to get going this season but are starting to find their feet. They were unlucky last week after losing Naldo to a red card after only four minutes, a spirited performance was given and they were unlucky not to get anything from the game.
Freiburg have been good this season since returning to the Bundesliga and they will be delighted to finish in the top half of the table come the winter break. A point away at Schalke will be seen as a fine result but with their injury concerns Freiburg may fancy a win.
Schalke have lost their last two games.
They have however beaten Freiburg in the last three meetings.
Freiburg have only won one away game in the last 13.
