Date: Sunday 11th December Venue: Veltins Arena Competition: Bundesliga KO: 16.30
Schalke are without the suspended Benedikt Howedes. Klaas-jan Huntelaar is injured and Franco di Santo a doubt.
Yevhen Konoplyanka has a chance of starting in midfield.
Bayer Leverkusen could recall Stefan Kiessling as Karim Bellarabi, Kevin Volland and Kevin Kampl are all injured.
Julian Brandt should start on the left of midfield.
Perhaps the most anticipated match of the weekend takes place at the Veltins Arena where two teams with ambitions of Champions League football take of each other. Schalke and Leverkusen are level on 17 points in eighth and ninth place respectively and both will be aiming to finish higher than that come the season end in May.
Leverkusen travel to Schalke without a win in three Bundesliga games and Schalke’s run of seven unbeaten matches came to an end last week after they lost 2-1 at league leaders RB Leipzig.
Expect this game to be fiercely contested with plenty of attacking play going on. Schalke and Leverkusen were in European action in midweek so a strain may well be felt by both sides. However, a late Sunday kick-off could well benefit Leverkusen more who played on Wednesday.
Both sides have identical win, draw, loss records this season so far.
Schalke have won for of their six home games in the Bundesliga this season.
Leverkusen have won three of the last six matches between these two sides.
