Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Bundesliga star Mahmoud Dahoud.
Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the 20-year old who currently plays for Borussia Monchengladbach but the club have blocked a move for their young star.
Reports in today’s media claim that Monchengladbach are keen to tie Dahoud down to a new contract and be a big part of the club’s future.
Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl commented on the situation saying:
“There is a 0% chance that Mahmoud will leave in January.
“There is no offer for him on the table from any club and we have not had any offers for him in the past either.”
“It is the club’s desire to extend his contract, we have not opened talks yet, but that will soon happen.
“We will have to consider our options if he only has one year left on his contract next year, but that is pure speculation at this stage.”
Liverpool have raided the Bundesliga a number of times since the arrival of Klopp as manager. The likes of Loris Karius, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan have all joined the club from the Bundesliga and Dahoud would join a number of familiar faces at Anfield.
Monchengladbach will block any attempt by Liverpool to sign Dahoud in January but a deal might be more likely in the summer of 2017.
