Arsenal saw an incredible £80m swoop for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rejected in the summer, according to reports cited by Goal.
The Gabonese striker has established himself as one of the best forwards in world football after achieving a tally of 39 goals last season, whilst his foul-goal haul against Hamburg this weekend took his record this season to 14 goals in as many games.
However, the former St Etienne man has consistently been linked with an exit from the Bundesliga giants and Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito has revealed Arsenal saw a €90m bid rejected this summer.
“Sometime ago, I called Michael Zorc, Dortmund’s director of football, to talk about Aubameyang [on behalf of Napoli]. But the ‘no’ was absolutely categorical. I know that this summer, Arsenal offered €90m (£80m) for Aubameyang, but Borussia didn’t want to hear anything about it.”
Morabito explored the option of signing Aubameyang for Napoli, following the Italian side’s sale of Gonzalo Higuain to rivals Juventus, but Borussia Dortmund stuck to their guns and insisted the talented forward would not be going anywhere.
27-year-old Aubameyang has previously made it clear he dreams of playing for Real Madrid, after promising to represent Los Blancos for his late grandfather.
