Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney could be handed an escape route out of Old Trafford by Italian giants Inter Milan, according to Italian football website Mercarto Calcio Web.
The legendary United player is just three goals away from breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record, which has been in place for over 40 years and Rooney is unlikely to instigate a departure until the milestone is surpassed.
The 31-year-old has been at United for 12 years and his Manchester United career is undoubtedly drawing to a close after a series of below-par performances over recent seasons.
Italian giants Inter Milan are in something of a transitional period themselves and with the club currently sat in 10th place in Serie A they are desperately searching for some inspiration from somewhere, with Rooney identified as the man to provide such an injection.
Boss Frank De Boer is under increasing pressure at the San Siro and with doubts cast over the future of Mauro Icardi, the club could turn to Rooney as the man to revive their flailing fortunes.
