Real Madrid are being linked with a remarkable swoop for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, according to Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo.
Zinedine Zidane’s side, who held interest in Brazilian superstar Neymar recently, are keen to unite Rakitic with his international colleague Luka Modric in the centre of the field- although it’s highly unlikely that Barcelona will approve a sale to their eternal rivals.
Links of an exit for Rakitic have appeared following Barcelona’s summer acquisitions of Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes, which add competition for places at the Nou Camp, but the Croatian ace has still remained an integral part of Luis Enrique’s side this season and scored in a vital 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid two weeks ago.
Rakitic’s deal has just two-years remaining, which has increased the transfer speculation, but it could be that these reports are emerging to push Barcelona into offering the 28-year-old new terms.
Signed from fellow La Liga outlet Sevilla two years ago, Rakitic has since won six trophies with the Catalan giants- including two La Liga titles and one Champions League.
If Rakitic did make the unlikely move to Madrid, he’d follow in the footsteps of Ronaldo and Luis Figo- who were the last high-profile movers from the two rivals.
