Borussia Dortmund ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed that Manchester City tried to land his signature, with the player quoted by The Daily Mail as stating his father held talks with the Premier League side.
The Gabonese international, who has already struck seven goals in as many appearances this season, has attracted a wealth of interest across Europe in recent years with his fine form and revealed to Onze that his father spoke to the Citizens this summer.
‘It’s true, there was contact. My father held talks with the club, but in the end there was nothing concrete.’
Bundesliga ace Aubameyang then reiterated his desire to play for Real Madrid in the future, due to a promise he made to his late grandfather, and stated there was distant interest from Zinedine Zidane’s side during the previous transfer window.
‘I think there was interest [from Real Madrid], but it was more distant so I didn’t get too carried away. I was asked in interview: “What is the club of your dreams?” I replied: “Real is the club of my heart and I made a promise to my grandfather to play there one day, I hope it will happen.”
‘So it’s just a target, I still have time. If they want me, they will come.’
Aubameyang has hit 59 Bundesliga goals in 100 appearances for Dortmund since moving to the club from St Etienne in 2013 and is rated as one of the deadliest finishers in European football.
