Competition: La Liga Date: Friday 9th September 2016 Venue: Anoeta Stadium Kick-Off: 19:45 BST
Real Sociedad will be without main striker Imanol Agirretxe along with Sergio Canales, Raul Navas and Carlos Martinez. Juanmi is expected to start his 3rd game in a row up top for Sociedad in Agirretxe’s absence.
Espanyol, on the other hand, have a fully fit squad to pick from with no injuries or suspensions.
Coming back from the International break, Espanyol will be desperate to record their first victory of the campaign. Quique Sanchez Florez’s men were involved in a 10 goal thriller at Sevilla, but were on the wrong side of the score-line losing 6 – 4. The following game saw them continue on the goal trail, playing out a draw this time, 2 -2 with Malaga, a side renowned for a stubborn defence.
Their squad has undergone some changes in the summer as they look to qualify for European football next season. Goals have been easy to come by for Espanyol so far, although that counts for both ends and it could well be a sign that the squad has yet to gel under their new manager.
The hosts, Real Sociedad had a tough start facing Real Madrid, losing comprehensively at home before travelling to Osasuna and collecting their first 3 points on the road. Sociedad themselves will be hoping for European football next season and will be looking to give their fans something to cheer about at Estadio Municipal de Anoeta.
Both sides have been involved in matches so far this term with 2 or more goals scored in the game, so for one side to come out on top, it could depend on who defends well on the night.
