Chelsea have completed the signing of left-back Marcos Alonso from Serie A side Fiorentina, the West London side have confirmed.
The 25-year-old returns to the Premier League, where he previously played with Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland, joining the Blues on a five-year and becoming the first defender to be signed by Antonio Conte for the Blues- although another could be arriving before the end of the day.
Alonso, a Spanish international, told the club’s website he was delighted by the move and the versatile player, who can play as an inverted wing-back in Conte’s preferred back-three formation, will certainly help Chelsea this term.
‘I’m very happy. It’s a step up in my career and I think this is the perfect place for me to continue developing. It’s time for me to win some titles.’
‘It was an easy decision for me to make when I heard the club were interested in signing me. My family and close friends know Chelsea is the club I have dreamed about playing for so I’m really excited about the challenge and I’m looking forward to working with my new team-mates.’
Alonso leaves Fiorentina after 85 appearances and five goals.
