Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen expect to sign Serge Gnabry from Arsenal before the closure of the transfer evening tomorrow evening, Bremen director of football Frank Baumann has stated.
The German winger has impressed in his five-years at Arsenal but has struggled to establish himself properly in the first-team, which has led to speculation that the Olympic silver medal winner would leave north London imminently- with his contract due to expire in 2017.
However, Arsene Wenger is keen for Gnabry to extend his deal and Baumann confirmed Bremen had already agreed terms with the player, although terms with Arsenal are yet to be finalised.
“Serge Gnabry would like to play for us. Talks with Arsenal are going well. Bayern have no influence on a potential transfer. We’ve agreed terms with the player and we’re confident that the transfer will go ahead.”
“[Arsenal captain Per] Mertesacker told us a lot about Serge Gnabry. He is a big fan of the player. We have reached an agreement with Arsenal but nothing has been finalised as of yet. The transfer could be confirmed tomorrow morning.”
It’s likely Arsenal will push for the 21-year-old to pen a new deal before he moves to the Bundesliga, where the Gunners will hope he finds his feet in the first-team before returning to the Emirates Stadium next year.
