In what could potentially be the most shocking transfer of the winter transfer window, Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher is set to move to French giants Marseille on a loan until the end of the season, according to L’Equipe.
The Scottish striker has arrived in France to finalize his loan deal, after failing to nail down a starting place under Sam Allardyce this season, despite scoring four goals this season for the Premier League strugglers.
Marseille are looking for cover in the striking position, with Michy Batshuayi and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou being their only two recognized strikers, and Fletcher would be able to provide cover for the two.
The transfer will raise rumours of Batshuayi moving to the Premier League in the dying moments of the January Transfer window, with Tottenham, Stoke and Newcastle looking into a potential deal.
Batshuayi has recently signed a new contract with the Ligue 1 club, but a big move to the Premier League may prove very tempting, with the European Championships coming up in the summer.
