Francois Ciccolini started his tenure as Bastia with a shock 1-0 home win against Lyon, after he replaced Ghislain Printant in midweek.
The win gives Bastia hope in their effort to survive the drop, but it puts more pressure on this young Lyon squad, as they look set to fail in their bid for Champions League football next season.
Lyon went close inside the first 20 minutes, when Maxime Gonalons saw his header drift just past the post, with Alexandre Lacazette failing to get a touch on the ball at the back post.
L’OL found themselves dominating the entire first half, but after 69 minutes, Brandao combined with Axel N’Gando before the Brazilian slotted home past Anthony Lopes.
Lacazette nearly got himself a brace immediately after the opener, but his first effort tested Jean-Louis Leca, and his second effort grazed the post with a glancing header.
Bastia were reduced to 10 men late on in the game, when Gilles Gioni was sent to the stands following a sickening two-footed tackle in Clement Grenier, but that didn’t do anything to change the score, to give Bastia a shock win, and condemn Lyon to another negative result.
