Manchester United are set to send Nick Powell on-loan for the rest of the season, according to The Sun.
The midfielder, who returned from long term injury recently, has made played just twice for United this campaign and with United now over their recent injuries worries, the 21 year-old has fallen to the bottom of the pecking order once again.
With Van Gaal willing to let him go, six Championship clubs are believed to be chasing his signature with Preston North End emerging as the frontrunners.
Powell’s most recent loan spell was a Leicester City where he failed to make an impact and struggled with injuries. It was a different story when he was at Wigan in the Championship during the 2013-14 season. He was a big player in Wigan’s play-off charge, scoring seven league goals, 12 in all competitions.
He’ll be keen to do the same as he looks to save his United career. Powell’s fighting for a new contract at Old Trafford with his current deal coming to an end this summer so an impressive loan spell could see him offered new terms.
Powell joined The Red Devils for £4m from Crewe in the summer of 2012 at the age of just 18. In 3 and a half seasons, he’s only managed to make nine appearances, scoring once.
