Marseille picked up the three points this Sunday evening, after their 0-2 defeat of Saint Etienne, thanks to goals from Michy Batshuayi and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.
Marseille started the brighter of the two sides, with Lucas Ocampos finding some space, but his shot was dealt with by Stephane Ruffier easily.
Saint Etienne had an effort of their own through Kevin Monnet-Paquet, but Steve Mandanda was equal to it, and pushed it away from danger.
It was Marseille who opened scoring through Batshuayi, the Belgian slotted home for Michel’s men just before the half time whistle.
Marseille grabbed the second goal soon after the half time interval, when Nkoudou managed to squeeze the ball into the bottom right corner, after some good work from Batshuayi.
St. Etienne couldn’t find a way back into the game, but Romain Hamouma saw his free kick smash against the upright, but it wasn’t enough to get Etienne back into the game.
Marseille managed to hold on for all three points, and move them further away from the Ligue 1 drop zone.
